32 years ago, a little game called Ridge Racer made a huge splash - firstly in the arcades, but then very notably on the original PlayStation as a launch title a year later in 1994. It's certainly a bit dated and lacking in features by today's standards, but it's an undoubtedly important part of gaming history, and we're finally about to get it on Xbox.
HAMSTER Corporation has announced today that Arcade Archives 2 Ridge Racer will not only be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation consoles, but also Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The release date for ACA 2 Ridge Racer on Xbox (and all other platforms) is June 5th, 2025, so there's not too long to wait at all!
There are new features in this release of Ridge Racer for Xbox as well. In addition to the "Original Mode," "High Score Mode," and "Caravan Mode" that have been included in other ACA titles, there's also going to be a "Time Attack Mode" where you can try and speedrun the game as quickly as possible.
Additionally, there are more save slots than in the original Ridge Racer, an ability to rewind, and support for VRR displays that aims to "reproduce the behavior of the original arcade game more closely than before."
We're still waiting for an exact price, but don't expect it to cost too much. In the meantime, you can check out the initial trailer at the top of this article, which shows this is very much a port with new features rather than a full-on remaster.
”Arcade Archives 2 RIDGE RACER” will be released on June 5th, 2025, the same day as the release of Nintendo Switch 2!
"RIDGE RACER" is a racing game released by NAMCO (Bandai Namco Entertainment) in 1993. Experience the essence of virtual reality with the 3D CG system, "System 22." This title offers four game modes, including three difficulty levels—Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced—as well as Time Trial (T.T.), where you compete one-on-one against a rival car to achieve the best time.Additionally, a DX version featuring support for an H-shifter and clutch is also included."

Unfortunately it's about 15 years to late for this to be anyway tempting for me to buy!
I will be buying this I absolutely love this game, was gonna purchase the Playstation version but this announcement Xbox all the way.
I also recently played the arcade machine in Bury in Arcade Club,
@TojoDragon84 Great place, that! Been meaning to go back there for a while now.
Jesus! Has it really been that long ( @FraserG thanks for making me feel older than Tutankhamen's cloth wrap ) I remember playing this way back in the day. I can't recall if it was any good, but I sure as hell remember losing a lot on it lol.
I remember picking this up when I first got my PlayStation, I'll happily pick this up and have another run through, even if it's just for the excellent soundtrack
I remember losing a lot, but looking at it now... the whole game is probably about 40 mins long lol
Original and best. handshake.gif
Hopefully this is the start of XBox getting the Arcade Archives series, even if it is the new #2 series
Got about 40 of the original Arcade Archives games on PS4 & Switch and always disappointed it never appeared on XBox consoles
It's about time!!
I thought Xbox was going to lose out once again after the recent announcements.
I've loved Ridge Racer since original arcade release all those years ago. You know when Namco and SEGA were kings of the arcade.
Great soundtrack too. Still listen to CD now and again.
RRRRRIIIDDDGGEE RRRRAAACCEERR!!!
Hoping Hamster Corp bring more titles from this Golden age of arcade. Tekken, Soul Edge and many more.
Insta buy day one. Good to see this coming to Xbox
I absolutely love this series. I really hope it paves the way for a release of Rave Racer since we never had a home conversion of that before!
It is a bit too late and also why Arcade Archives? That's unfortunate. I mean it's a fair game but later entries are way more exciting. Can't put others in there huh?
Probably other arcade racing games arcade versions to offer really.
Otherwise I'd go for Ridge Racer 6 for 360 back compat instead. If I ever find a copy.
