So, earlier today, we saw leaked images of the much-rumoured Xbox 2025 handheld device - which now looks very real with in-person shots of the system being shared online. Accompanying these pictures was a report claiming that the device might be officially unveiled later this month - and we're also starting to see even more hints that a nearby reveal could be on the cards.
First of all, during this week's announcement of Gears of War: Reloaded, Microsoft officially referred to the game's Windows release as 'Xbox PC' - which is something we've never seen before. Of course, this could be a simple branding change, but the timing of it is certainly curious - given some folks are predicting a June release for this Windows-based handheld console, based on past ASUS ROG Ally launches. Will the new handheld be referred to as an Xbox PC? We might be about to find out.
We're also starting to see other, more obvious pointers towards this device being real and imminent. The Verge's Tom Warren has just shared some interesting news that the Xbox app on PC now displays a clock, Wi-Fi information and battery status when in compact mode - all of which would be rather useful on a handheld console. A follower then responds showcasing a bunch of Ubisoft titles that have just appeared on the Windows PC storefront, available to purchase directly from Microsoft for the first time.
While none of these directly confirm an Xbox handheld device being imminent, added together they certainly point towards something like this existing - especially on the back of that leaked report and accompanying images earlier today. It sounds like we shouldn't have to wait much longer for this Xbox handheld console to be confirmed; it's rumoured to be announced at Computex 2025, which takes place the week commencing May 19th.
