Talking Point: Will Xbox Game Pass Get A Price Increase This Year?

Back at the start of the month, Xbox announced a series of price increases for Xbox consoles, accessories and games in multiple regions, and the big question on many people's minds was whether Xbox Game Pass would follow suit.

Fortunately that hasn't happened yet, but there's still concern that an Xbox Game Pass price increase could be forthcoming. One of the big reasons is because some Xbox games are getting hiked to $80 in the future, meaning Game Pass members are technically getting even more value from their Ultimate subscriptions when that happens.

We've also just had a very, very good period for Xbox Game Pass additions over the past six months-or-so. The sheer number of new first-party titles being added to the service has been incredible, and even in April alone, we've been treated to a fantastic mix of first and third-party games - some of which are true Game of the Year contenders!

Looking back, Xbox Game Pass last received a price increase in July of 2024, when Xbox Game Pass Ultimate jumped from £12.99 / €14.99 / $16.99 per-month to £14.99 / €17.99 / $19.99 per-month. It hasn't even been a year since that announcement, so it surely wouldn't be a great look to announce yet another increase in 2025 as well.

At the same time, Microsoft wants to make money, and the company's going to charge whatever it feels people will be willing to pay. Perhaps the saving grace is Xbox Cloud Gaming and the whole "this is an Xbox" marketing push - if they price people out of cloud gaming, it's going to be at odds with the message that Xbox is trying to convey. There's also the upcoming Xbox handheld to consider, which surely will put a big focus on PC Game Pass.

Personally, I don't think we're getting an Xbox Game Pass price increase in 2025, which probably means they'll go ahead and announce it immediately. Let's hope not, eh? Fingers crossed we're done with price hikes for this year!
