Talking Point: Will Xbox Game Pass Get A Price Increase This Year?

Yep I keep looking at the price of new games and my series x and my game pass ultimate subscription which runs until March 2027 at the old £11.99 per month rate fully paid for.

Then I look at the GPU better release schedule since late 2024 and 2025 and think it is so much cheaper and amazing value.

Games since late 2024 I have played on GPU on series x and coming this year so far:
Stalker
Indy Jones
COD BO
AVOWED
ATOM Fall
South of Midnight
Oblivion remaster
COD Modern warefare 2022
Doom
Gears of war reloaded
Outer World 2
COD 2025

And probably some unannounced games to come this year and that is only the games I have played not including the great expedition 33 on game pass ultimate day one.
Just add that up in money.

My subscription £148 for the year.
That’s about two full price games or two MKW full price on release day.

Pretty sure that a Game Pass price increase is inevitable with where Xbox is going.

Absolutely, and even if they do hike it, it's still going to be worth the money and then some. I think they'll bump it a few quid / bucks, and introduce the long awaited family plan too.

Looking back, Xbox Game Pass last received a price increase in July of 2024, when Xbox Game Pass Ultimate jumped from £12.99 / €14.99 / $16.99 per-month to £14.99 / €17.99 / $19.99 per-month. It hasn't even been a year since that announcement, so it surely wouldn't be a great look to announce yet another increase in 2025 as well.

Yes they'd have to be real piles of **** if they increased the price only a year after their July 2024 price increase. Before that, they hadn't increased the price since... July 2023. Oh...

I doubt it. If they intend to raise the price again this year then surely they would’ve announced this along with all the other price hikes that they detailed last week? Then again, it’s not impossible I suppose as Xbox are no strangers to making awkward PR blunders. I still think that 2026 is more likely for the next price increase though.

£17.99 is my guess.

And then I feel we may start getting 2 smaller increases a year.

If prices do go up I’d like to see MS offer year long subs.

I was expecting anual price increases for CoD so I'm hoping the increase game RRP means they wont be doing that... right...

I mentioned in another article that Game Pass Core members appear to be excluded from the Game Pass RPG Sale that's currently going on, which leads me to believe Microsoft will be trying to maximize Game Pass revenue however possible, so I expect a price increase.

I hope not but inflation/tariffs might mean a rise is inevitable. Reward Points make it much cheaper.

The price increase on console and accessories is thanks to the ***** president. Game pass doesn't need to follow suit.

Of course it will be increased it shouldn't but it will be. It's as inevitable as the sun rise but much less welcome.

I did it ages ago, there was some tips on how to do it, but I think the loop hole got closed in the end.
I know it runs out by looking at my membership on my series x in March 2027, then I guess I have to pay 🤣

I'm expecting a price increase and the complete removal of the rewards program. Which is fair because I just got 3 free months for literally 0 dollars, just biding my time slowly earning points.

Ive been a staunch xbox supporter since day 1, never hesitated to sub for gp ultimate, and with points only pay for 4 months a year.

Income is not an issue either as $20, $30, even $50 or more is fine.

That said, I am using my xbox ecosystem less and less now and generally speaking, am playing games less due to how much time I have available. If they raise it again I may actually finally deem it not worth my money given how much I play. (And make no mistake, if time wasnt a factor itd be worth way more given the value provided)

The same applies to ps+ as well. (NSO has to stay for the kids and its dirt cheap anyway)

4 games = 320 USD
GPU even at 25 per month = 300. You can make your money back in 2-3 months easily.

I said it many times that xbox is basically a math question of how many games you play, interest in Ms franchises and overall if you are ok with sub.

I think it's inevitable. Probably waiting for the dust to settle after the increase of the console and game prices. I predict it will be during the upcoming showcase they announced it. After showing a bunch of games of course.

I think it's inevitable that it will go up, but I do think they should have just done it alongside the console price increase.

As the dust settles, you just know that’s when it will go up—and the headlines will read 'Xbox is dead' for the billionth time this year.

I feel like I want to complain about price increases, but honestly with all the boneheaded marketing Microsoft has done (Game Pass Gold to Game Pass Ultimate conversion for $1... then beneficial Core to GPU conversions) they probably need to increase prices for all the cheap GPU people have been enjoying.

Not totally true about time.
Because if you like something more you sometimes move your free time around and play or watch the item you want to most of all and dedicate more time to that rather then other things you might have done.

So basically if you are happy with what you are playing for example on game pass then you might not buy another game even if you did sort of want the other game.

Like I have a switch 2 and switch 2 pro controller preordered for release day.
But after reevaluating I may well surrender the pre-order. Then Nintendo lose out, for now anyway.

I think it will be a decent rise, I could see $3-$5 a month on the top end because its in the region where people might grumble but will accept it, more likely on console imo.

PC will be the interesting one as they see that as the growth market but GP on PC has never made a major dent so any increase there will just be another hurdle for them.

@themightyant I feel like I’ve hit that time ceiling already. Game Pass keeps adding games that I don’t have time to play. Ultimately that’s because Microsoft’s tailored curation for the US mass market doesn’t match my niche tastes in games most of the time. So I usually end up prioritising a bunch of non Game Pass titles that I have more interest in, while my Game Pass backlog just grows seemingly endlessly. The next Game Pass inclusion that I’m really interested in is Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and then there’s not really anything else currently announced that really tickles my fancy for the remainder of 2025 now that Fable has been delayed. I’m still keeping an open mind to renewing Ultimate for another 18 months when mine expires at the start of March, but I’m also considering moving down to Core. That’s because of time constraints rather than the value proposition.
