Bethesda Officially Announces Oblivion Remastered, Full Reveal Coming Tomorrow

Finally something official! We'll get a date if not a shadow drop.

I greatly enjoyed the two Bethesda games I've played, Starfield and Skyrim, so I'm looking forward to playing this. South of Midnight, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Doom The Dark Ages, Oblivion... Wow.

Better than Skyrim, I can't wait to play it again!

I hope they don't announce a Fall 2025 release date.

I enjoyed Oblivion more than Skyrim. I remember reading gaming magazines at the time & watching videos on YouTube about the launch and the physics and graphics this would bring to consoles. I poured so much time into it, the game would crash or freeze at the 130 hour mark. Even with the bugs I had a special time hopping into big RPGs with the launch of this title. Such a great time. I will be buying this, hope they have a physical copy.

Hope it releases late may/ early June. Need to start on expedition 33 first.

I may be the minority, but im hoping for a late spring/ summer release. If its a shadow drop, bethesda is doing expedition 33 dirty!

unless they majorly changed something everyone should grab one of the six or seven goblin totema. after you have one of the totems or more drop it off in a town with guards the goblins will try to take it back and a massive mele will break out good times.

We are in full on GamePass Ultimate nonstop game drops. Oblivion remake being real and Doom looking too good to pass up. Converting my Core time to Ultimate will just save me too much money now.

If we get some physical editions with full games on disc(s) I'll consider buying later whatever is found out.

@themightyant I get that, but I fear that wont figure into the equation.
Though they are different beasts entirely ( Expedition 33 being an evolution of jrpg's) I think their release so close together inevitably takes the shine off both and I do wander whats driving the release window for MS here?
I can only vote with my wallet and Ive bought Expedition 33.

BTW, mate I finally replaced the second ps5 with a pro this weekend, misses is well happy! Only live once and all that stuff...

I have not played it the OG version. I played little bit of starfield and skyrim but never really got into both.
Is oblivion remake worth a shot, like especially as a first timer in 2025?

@Millionski it's very much like Skyrim but greener, less dragons, less skill tree management. Oh and Sean Bean, Patrick Stewart and Lynda Carter are voice actors in it, so there's that sweet bit of nostalgia 🫡

I’m digital only now and don’t think I’m an idiot. I’ve never been a collector though. I wouldn’t not play a game though just because it only came in one format or the other.

Can you play the game on the discs you buy if internet is cut off completely? I'm legit asking because I don't know much about physical game media at all. Seems like we are reliant on electricity + internet to game so why not just get the digital most-updated copy

@Titntin I think they just have so much in the pipeline, and the impending black hole of GTA6 incoming that they just need to keep pushing stuff out now otherwise they could be sitting on if for awhile waiting for the GTA6 nuclear winter to pass, any game going up against GTA6 is probably going to struggle to get any coverage

@Scrubchub yep, I used to buy a crazy amount of games and those that I liked enough to want to replay were few and far between, so, until recently I have been very happy with the content in gamepass, I got to play so many more games than I normally would and discover lots of new types of games I may never have tried if I had to pay up front, I still buy games, but mainly some games that I dont think will come to gamepass and those that are leaving the service that I really loved. Hopefully with expedition 33, Oblivion and then Doom gamepass is back to form

Omg that is a remaster. It's gorgeous.

We need a new word that sits between remaster and remake. This is not a remaster imo, but not a fully fledged remake. We need a new go-to terminology for games like this that go above and beyond that of a remaster, but not quite the highs of a remake.

@Kaloudz I agree this is much more than just a remaster, a remaster to me is just a simple resolution bump, slightly improved textures and framerate. What Bethesda have done here is bordering on a proper remake. Downloading as I type this, 123GB so a biggie as expected. Game looks and sounds phenomenal.

@MaccaMUFC I know right? A remaster is exactly as you said - a bump to resolution, textures, and frame rate. The moment you add new things and play with systems to modernize them - it is no longer a remaster because it's not the same as the original. It leans heavily towards a remake - absent being being started from scratch. We really need a new phrase for this sort of work lol.
