Gears Of War's Netflix Movie Gets Update As Director Reportedly Chosen

Things are picking up in the world of Gears of War again with Xbox's announcement of Gears of War: Reloaded, and now it seems as though the series' Netflix adaptation is also stepping up a gear in 2025.

As shared by The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix and Gears dev The Coalition have landed on David Leitch as director for the upcoming movie. Leitch has previously worked on Fall Guy and Deadpool 2, amongst other action movies of a similar ilk.

For now, the report says that Leitch is "in negotiations" over the role, so it's seemingly early days. Two years ago, fellow Marvel cohort Jon Spaihts signed up as writer on the project, having previously worked on Dune and Doctor Strange.

As for casting, well, that's still up in the air at the moment - although WWE star Dave Bautista has certainly made his case to feature. The Batista Bomb dealer floated the idea of an online petition to get him featured in the Netflix adaptation just a few months ago, so we'll have to wait and see what happens there.

In terms of the movie's eventual launch, we can't see it being anywhere near the release of Gears Reloaded - but Microsoft and The Coalition will surely be hoping that it could sync up nicely with the big launch of Gears of War: E-Day.
