Re: High On Life Patch #4 Adds New 'Quality' And 'Performance' Options On Xbox Series X|S

bobbypaycheque

@Bleachedsmiles I get where you are coming from. I was playing some OG Xbox and Gamecube last weekend and just booting up Simpsons Hit and Run or 007 Nightfire and it just goes straight into the menu to start or load a game. No adjusting anything, no updates, no waffling about with sliders trying to get lighting just right. It really hits home every time I play a system from before the internet was everywhere how simple it was back in the day. I miss that simplicity and that simplicity was why I bought consoles back in the day. They need to optimize and cater the experience for the machine. But I also get the sense that consoles are just becoming gaming PC's with UI skins built for controller. Where is the blast processing?

Re: Microsoft President Questions Whether Gaming Consoles Will Still Be Around In 10 Years

bobbypaycheque

Xbox could very well overtake Sony this console generation if the games are good. People who think that is impossible aren't remembering very clearly the horrible start Playstation 3 had before finishing strong and being a market leader or at least a strong competition to Nintendo Switch with Playstation 4. Or things for them could remain the same and they become the new SEGA, that company that had some real great games and great hardware but ultimately wasn't consistent enough. I think the next decade will be more defined by shortages though than anything else. It won't be as easy to predict where gaming goes if the current globalist economy that has enabled cheap goods to be safely transported half way around the world isn't able to survive massive global instabilities. Issues like the economic and social troubles in China, the war in Ukraine, climate unpredictability, energy inflation, resource exhaustion, global food inflation and the list sadly goes on. In ten years we may be extremely grateful for a chicken sandwich and not even thinking about the latest console. I hope that isn't the case but ten years is a long time and things are not going down the path of peace and prosperity at the moment. I try to be grateful every day I sit down to play a game that I have easy access to some great games old and new and am not currently starving or facing undo hardship finding stable shelter. Not trying to be too heavy in the comments section but sometimes it does seem that "hardcore" gamers never take the time to enjoy the games we're playing now on the hardware we have now.

Re: Microsoft Says Xbox Game Pass 'Creates Another Option' For Devs To Make Money

bobbypaycheque

@Microbius I don't recall anyone lambasting the existence of Blockbuster for reducing game sales for most of console gaming's existence. I almost exclusively rented games for the PS1/N64 and Gamecube/Xbox/PS2 generations. I don't really see Gamepass any differently. Especially because Blockbuster here had a monthly subscription that gave people unlimited game rentals.

Re: Review: Wanted: Dead - A Highly Disappointing Hybrid Slasher/Shooter

bobbypaycheque

In here to stick up for the Dead or Alive fans. It was something new and exciting on the Dreamcast and 3 was a graphical showcase on OG Xbox. I remember myself and others being amazed at kicking someone through a window and winding up in a totally different part of the stage. Maybe now people have forgotten about those games but honestly they were great fun and fond memories were made in that special time in gaming. If you like 3D fighters I highly recommend Dead or Alive 2 and 3 as the best in the series. They are both available on the OG Xbox and are both backwards compatible.

Re: Review: SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake - Another Lazy Outing For Everyone's Favourite Sea Sponge

bobbypaycheque

OpenCritic has this at a 69 with quite the split on scores as well. 8/10 seems to be the ceiling and 3 and 4 outta 10 being the floor with most being in that 6-7 range. This is one that is probably best to either wait for a sale or if you're a hardcore Spongebob fan who loved the previous game then go for it. We all have that 6 or 7/10 game that we personally love I am sure so this game is probably that for some people.

Re: Review: High On Life - Bland Shooting Action Meets Stoner Humour That's An Acquired Taste

bobbypaycheque

I am about three hours in and enjoying this game. It definitely isn't a 4/10, I think 6/10 is about where this game will land for most people and for some you like the humor will be more and those who dislike it a lot less. I do like a lot that this game is very different. I honestly also don't get how, as others have said, how Deathloop is a 10/10 with the AI and simplistic shooting mechanics it had and this is somehow terrible because of that. One thing that does need to be addressed is the frame-rate. It is REALLY all over the map. VRR definitely makes it easier to deal with but it is still noticeable. Not really acceptable on next gen hardware. But this is not a 4/10, that suggests unplayable. This is playable, just not going to be to everyone's taste.

Re: Many Studios Are Struggling With Xbox Series S Requirements, Claims Developer

bobbypaycheque

The people who clearly have never done any development for anything whatsoever, just like the artists quoted in this article, claiming developing scalability for PC is easier than doing so for a box that has the exact same specs across the board is possibly one of the most ignorant takes I have seen on a gaming website. And that's saying something. I guess a basic grasp of objective reality and actually having some background in a technical field before preaching about it is still too much to ask. And apparently asking someone what their technical background is that may give them some sort of validity is becoming angry? Who knew such opinionated people could be so sensitive.

Re: Many Studios Are Struggling With Xbox Series S Requirements, Claims Developer

bobbypaycheque

@BAMozzy Don't waste your time, @Moto5 thinks because he can read a number beside the word "teraflop" that he knows how performance is actually measured, or that three devs' hot takes from years ago represent an entire industry today. He doesn't have clue how software development actually works and is just here to be a negative troll. Your reasonable and logical arguments will go right over his head.

Re: Many Studios Are Struggling With Xbox Series S Requirements, Claims Developer

bobbypaycheque

@Titntin No anger or bile. Simply asking what puts you in a position to call me ignorant when I have been in software development for over 12 years. You had my respect until you were extremely rude and disrespectful in your reply. I merely asked what makes you more qualified than any Joe blow off the street to comment on this and your reply is bow out of the conversation on the grounds that I was somehow mean for calling you out on how credentialed you might be to comment on the issue. Weak response after a weak argument. Blocked and goodbye.

Re: Many Studios Are Struggling With Xbox Series S Requirements, Claims Developer

bobbypaycheque

@Moto5 I did read those articles at the time, the ID Software devs seem to disagree, so there isn't even consensus within the team. Control ran poorly on mid to low PC hardware so again, that seems like optimization is something Remedy can work on. One of your little articles you googled up contradicts the other one. So which "real" game dev is right huh? The guy who says RAM is the issue or the guy who says RAM isn't the issue? I work is software development, not game development but we do need to optimize software for a much wider selection of hardware. What do you do for a living that makes you the expert? Three devs out of an entire industry doesn't make whatever bizarre point you're trying to make true.
AGAIN, if a developer can't make a game run decently, 1080p 30fps, on what is essentially a Ryzen 3700 and an RX5600 with FSR 2.0 support....that's on them.

Re: Many Studios Are Struggling With Xbox Series S Requirements, Claims Developer

bobbypaycheque

@Titntin "shows clearly how little knowledge of game development you have" I am a software developer, while that isn't games I do know what we do here is a LOT more complicated on the compatibility side than getting a game to run. But the basic principle remains the same, of course I simplified it because do you really want me to break down a full requirements discovery report in a forum??? I'll bite, what do you do for a living that makes you know SO much about game development? You probably don't, just like the two squeaky wheel artists who were quoted as "devs" in every one of these articles doesn't know much about it either. So since you're such a stickler for the details, break down your professional experience in game development so we can all bow to your incredible knowledge of game development and throw in a quick PSWBS and maybe a brief ACWP so we know all the details. Seriously, if a developer can't make a game run decently, 1080p 30fps, on what is essentially a Ryzen 3700 and an RX5600 with FSR 2.0 support....that's on them. Because it would be rightfully seen as absurd if a dev complained about not being able to optimize a PC game for those specs.

EDIT FYI "I even had to run FH5@ 30hz cause the pop in was so bad otherwise, and the loading times make you wander if your ssd is working..... " This is definitely a you problem. But you should be able to sort it out no problem with your extensive knowledge of game optimization.

Re: Many Studios Are Struggling With Xbox Series S Requirements, Claims Developer

bobbypaycheque

@Titntin I disagree respectfully. Why is it anything other than what it is now? Essentially a drop in resolution and a few other settings. Halo, Forza Horizon 5, Flight Sim etc. all optimized fine for the Series S. I also take issue with the title of this article. "Many" devs it seems is a VFX artist from the team that made I Am Fish and another artist from Rocksteady.... As a dev myself although not a game dev I take issue calling an artist a dev. They are not. And this article is a nothing burger for clicks.

Re: Many Studios Are Struggling With Xbox Series S Requirements, Claims Developer

bobbypaycheque

@Moto5 Who are the "best devs" and where does one see what they have to say? LOL It is relevant because the Steam hardware survey proves that people live in a bubble thinking most people use top of the line hardware when that simply isn't true. For a significant number of people the Series S and Gamepass is the only way they can afford to get into gaming. So enough with the elitist gate keeping BS and brown nosing for devs who can't be bothered to optimize a few settings. If you want to get really technical about it the Xbox Series X and the PS5 are no longer impressive hardware either in the PC world. They are two years out of date and a generation of GPU's and CPU's for PC have come out since.

Re: Microsoft Lays Out 'Benefits' Of Xbox + Activision Blizzard On New Website

bobbypaycheque

@themightyant I kinda feel that their deal with Samsung TV's is a cloud only package in practice. I also do not think the ABK acquisition can really be compared to the Bethesda acquisition. Much like Microsoft has already put their biggest games like Minecraft on Nintendo Switch they are going to need to make that 70 billion bucks back and that doesn't happen on Xbox and PC alone.

Re: Microsoft Lays Out 'Benefits' Of Xbox + Activision Blizzard On New Website

bobbypaycheque

@Titntin It isn't going to be a Xbox exclusive. By default it will always be available on PC. Moreover it is guaranteed as part of the deal to be on PlayStation, you really haven't read the details of the acquisition? Literally nobody except you are talking about lifetime exclusivity. If you wanna talk about a company that locks games behind exclusivity and even leaves games trapped on outdated hardware.... well, it rhymes with "Pony." And no, paying for years of DLC exclusivity really in practice isn't very different as it leaves many gamers out in the cold for a year or more, well past the point of relevancy in the lifecycle of a multiplayer focused game. Xbox HAS been the most consumer friendly of this generation and whether that is out of need or not doesn't change that. GamePass brings gaming to way more people, including the many people who can't justify 70 bucks a game.

Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The Xbox Games Showcase 2022?

bobbypaycheque

@themightyant Considering we went through a global pandemic that changed the structure of how we work, ongoing supply chain issues and global instability in general I am very pleased at what we are getting. Between XBox, Nintendo, Sony and PC we are spoiled for choice this year, and this is going to be a sparse year compared with next year. Lots to enjoy this year and a ton to look forward to next year and the years to come.

Re: Xbox Creator Demands Action As Sexist Xbox Live Recording Goes Viral

bobbypaycheque

I've heard as bad and often worse, especially in COD lobbies on the 360. That is why the mute is there. It's mean sure, but why has everyone become so unbelievably sensitive to what strangers say to them in an online videogame. Also why do people mention the year and then exclaim shock that people are still mean, as though human beings haven't had a mean streak for the last all of our existence. I was actually expecting this to be so much worse but really it was pretty cringe if anything. This streamer has also engaged in sexist insults online so I don't exactly see why she is so utterly offended here.

Re: Fallout 4 Coming To Xbox One: Explosive Trailer Revealed

bobbypaycheque

@BAMozzy Console games do look flat in comparison to PC games in the graphics department. That doesn't mean I think graphics are everything, as evidenced by the fact that I own consoles. That's just a fact. If graphics were all that mattered I would only play on PC. If Fallout 4 actually looks terrible as an end product then the modding community can give it new life with the visuals a game like this deserves. Seriously though, go back and play Fallout 3 on 360, no part of this trailer looked that bad, not even the dog, that game has aged poorly. I guess we'll see at E3 what they have to offer.

Re: Fallout 4 Coming To Xbox One: Explosive Trailer Revealed

bobbypaycheque

@BAMozzy I get what you're saying, and the games you mention look good. But, I've kinda been spoiled by Battlefield 4, Crysis series and Skyrim modded on PC. Once someone sees modded Skyrim everything else kinda looks flat. Skyrim can look absurdly, irrationally beautiful when modded correctly, and there is just no possible way that the AMD APU's in next gen consoles will ever come close to being able to reach graphical parity with these games running max settings on a PC. So on console the games you mention do look great for a console game. I'm not a PC master race guy or anything like that, I bought an Xbox One because I like Xbox exclusives, but it would be unreasonable for me to assume games will look as good on my One as they do on my PC. If worse case scenario is Fallout 4 looks a bit lackluster then I'll get it on PC and start modding. As for COD:AW I thought it looked good but I think you are referring to the cut scenes looking like a movie. The actual gameplay looked just fine but I wouldn't say I was as impressed as a lot of people. I knew as soon as they put APU's in the next gen consoles I wouldn't be getting one or the other based on their graphical capabilities. Then again, I'm one of those weird people who bought a next gen console to play Destiny Consoles make up for everything by having great exclusives and a much better social system in place.

Re: Fallout 4 Coming To Xbox One: Explosive Trailer Revealed

bobbypaycheque

@BAMozzy I haven't had a chance to play Witcher 3 yet. Arkham Knight looks fantastic but we will have to see how it plays. Batman's cape can cause problems, even on the previous games I played on a high end PC, that darn cape clipped and did all kinds of weird and glitchy things. My concern is that these consoles have been out a good while by this point and I've still yet to see anything that looks amazing. I am very optimistic about Arkham Knight and the next Halo though. I'm more concerned with consistency of performance than eye watering visuals though. If Fallout 4 winds up looking exactly like it did in the trailer but plays buttery smooth with no bugs and glitches I will be completely happy.

Re: Fallout 4 Coming To Xbox One: Explosive Trailer Revealed

bobbypaycheque

@BAMozzy I don't think judging from the actual specs of the hardware we will ever see the graphical jump we got between Xbox/PS2 to 360/PS3. I get exactly what you're saying, some of the models and textures (especially that COD Ghosts dog) look a little rough. But it is a trailer and could look better come E3, where hopefully we get some gameplay to ogle over. My main hope is that the game doesn't ship with as many bugs as Fallout 3 did.

Re: Fallout 4 Coming To Xbox One: Explosive Trailer Revealed

bobbypaycheque

@BAMozzy Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas were never benchmarks of what the Xbox 360 could do either. Fallout has always been more about exploring the world, the story and the general artistic direction than being a showcase for graphics. I would much prefer an average looking game that runs smooth and has fantastic gameplay rather than a Ryse or AC: Unity to be honest.
