These remind me of the Gears of War controller. They look sick!
55 quid for a console "wrap" is scandalous 😱
I call shenanigans 😠
I like the wrap way more than the controller. But happy for anyone who is excited by this, maybe just not for me.
You know what? I always wonder if Microsoft actually produced special edition Series S consoles based on some of their biggest franchises, would they sell a few more consoles?
Being the cheaper option surely a special edition machine would desirable by genaral consumers and collectors. I'd prefer to buy those over Series X Wraps.
That looks much better than the leaked image lol. Now that's a good looking pad.
I ordered mine already. The standard Series Wireless one, shut up and take my money.
But they can keep that Elite model, never again will i buy that crap thing.
I like the Series 2 Elite design - maybe will order that as my OG Elite V2 is starting to show its age and the grip is starting to peel by the triggers.
Finally!!! I've been saying for ages that the lack of a Collectors Elite controller is such a missed opportunity. I will definitely be pre-ordering one this Friday...
I am going to get that Elite controller, @BAMozzy. My only concern is there is a distinct possibility that they will announce the Elite 3 this June. What to do? 🤪
Oh my gosh, they finally remembered console wraps are a thing. I'm so happy about this
$55 for a wrap is wild. lol
I cannot seem to get the Microsoft website to work properly, @FraserG. I'm getting an 'Access Denied' on this server message when I attempt to go to my basket. Is there anywhere else that I can purchase the Elite controller that you know of, please?
@Fiendish-Beaver Elite 3 seems to be held off until Next Gen. been no rumors on it in a long long time. I think the Elite 3 and updated standard controller all come in 2027 or after with the new console. So I’d say you are safe. These look nice but i am saving my money for the Gears of War controller and Wrap if they happen and they should.
@Fiendish-Beaver Elite version of the DOOM controller is a Microsoft Store exclusive unfortunately. Worth trying another browser maybe?
Thank you, @HonestHick. I am trying to buy the Elite controller, but the website won't let me. I don't know whether the problem lies with me or the website.
As for the Gears controller, as you know, I'll be all over that, and will happily get the Gears Elite 3 controller when that becomes available when they release E-Day in 2026 along side the Prime...
Thank you, @FraserG. I'll try it on my mobile. Can you buy it directly off the Xbox console perchance?
It's not working on my mobile either, @FraserG. I'm getting the same response...! 😭
I don't know what's going on with the Store; my son has also tried to order it, on his account, and he got the same error message as myself. I'll be mighty annoyed if it sells out before I have chance to obtain one...
That is absolutely hideous, who designs these atrocities?
@Fiendish-Beaver That's really strange. I've checked on console and it's letting me add to basket on there...
I'm still getting an Access Denied message on both my PC and my mobile, @FraserG, as is my son. However, I think I may just love you! When you mentioned your console, I tried it there, and it worked! Thus, I have one Elite controller pre-ordered, and I am very grateful for you helping this old codger... 😊
I want this with Hall Effect sticks
Standard controller is one for the best controllers this whole generation. The Wrap and the Elite.. I dunno how they left the design stage. And the standard gets DLC the other two don't get...fine with me as only one worth buying here.
The regular Doom Guy controller looks awesome! If I hadn't just recently got a new controller I would probably get that.
@Nic-Noc20th-C I'm really hoping for various special edition controllers and a console wrap for Gears E-Day. As I'll definitely get those 😊
@Fiendish-Beaver Fantastic! Really glad it worked for you, let me know what it's like when it arrives
The sad thing is how much better Microsoft is at marketing when it comes to selling accessories rather than promoting its games, even though in the last 2 years, few games have been worth it...
Great designs if you like that kinda thing! £75 for the controller is a total liberty though...
Will do, @FraserG! I'm sure it will look awesome positioned next to the Doom: The Dark Ages Collector's Edition model that I have also on pre-order! I'm absolutely chuffed that you managed to point me in the right direction for the controller...😊👍
I think the £75 one is pretty ugly, @Titntin, although I am not particularly fond of the colour green anyway, which probably doesn't help. I've just pre-ordered the Elite 2 version, which looks much better (red being one of my favourite colours!), and in fact it reminds me of the old Gears of War Controllers that came with the 360 Collector's Console, and also the one that came with the Xbox One X Gears of War 4 console (both of which, you will not be surprised to hear, I bought). Indeed, I still use my 360 Gears of War controller when I go to my neighbours house for a gaming night...
@Fiendish-Beaver No doubt it will! You're very welcome 👍
@Fiendish-Beaver Congratulations mate, you must have quite the collection!
I don't play xbox quite as much, so only two Forza special editions and the original one - all of them with sticky triggers. I'd buy a new one in a heartbeat if they released a new version of the controller - they did suggest they were going to release one with haptics and I'd be interested in that , especially if it had a battery built in...
I do have 5 PS5 controllers mind you (also thrown two in the bin after stick drift), but we have two machines. I try not to use the special 30th anniversary one too much! Other than that they are all different colours
For me, and obviously you, it's all part of the fun of gaming
@Fiendish-Beaver I pre-ordered. Even if they release a V3 soon after, I do like the look of the Doom V2 and I have the Gears Elite V1 (unused) so I don't mind not using it. I'd still likely pre-order/buy a V3 regardless...
why is the left trigger orange?
Wait! What, @BAMozzy??? There is a Gears Elite controller? Is that for 4 or 5, and is it a Elite 1 or 2? I'm a huge Gears of War fan, and collector, and I never knew they did an Elite controller.
I did manage to get the Doom Elite 2 in the end too...
Edit: Damn! I've just had a look on eBay, and there's one that's described as new having been used for £333.12. Man, I'm tempted... 😂
@Fiendish-Beaver It's the Gears 4 (I believe) Elite V1 - Mine is/was brand new when I bought it and remains unused. I also have the Gears 4 XB1S and standard Gears 4 controller (The controller is unused) as well as the Gears 3 360 controller and a Tomb Raider 360 one that is also 'red'. Red is my favourite colour.
The Gears 4 V1 was also limited edition so I doubt you'll find a 'new' one and at a reasonable cost...
I'm really annoyed with myself at having missed these, @BAMozzy. I have the Collectors Editions (unopened) for Gears of War 3, Gears 4 and Gears 5 (which wasn't available in this Country, and so I had to import it from the US).
I also have 2 of the limited edition Drone busts. They only made 500 of them, and they are all numbered. I have one on display, and the other has never been opened.
I also bought the Gears of War 3 Xbox 360 console, and the GoW4 one as well. Plus I have a huge (and I mean ridiculous!) canvas poster from GoW3. It's something like 5 feet by 3 feet. Stupidly big. And of course the obligatory GoW3 blanket, and even the Gears of War Board games, which has never been opened. Plus all the books.
I have more too, but my memory fails me at this point.
What I don't have though, is the Elite controller... 🤬
@Fiendish-Beaver I don't have as much as you as far as Gears Collectables. However, IF I ever consider selling my Gears 4 Elite Controller, I'll give you first shout...
That's very kind of you, @BAMozzy. Thank you...
@Fiendish-Beaver i don’t say this lightly, you have one of best Gears of War collections out there that i know of. You got me beat even and Gears of War is my favorite IP in gaming and it’s really not even close, Only Red Dead Redemption makes me Half as excited as a Gears announcement. I will be playing E-Day PVP for 4-5 years just about every day. I did that with Gears 5 PvP which i just got back into last month and already put another 50 hours on top of my 2500 hours. I will buy everything i can for E-Day as i know you will too. Can’t wait for it. Keep on collecting my friend. Don’t forget to mention you have a lancer LOL
@Fiendish-Beaver @Titntin
“ I do have 5 PS5 controllers mind you ”
It would take all 5 to match the Xbox’s battery Life. Sorry i had to take that one Titntin. Ok for what i really wanted to say. I collect controllers, Controllers are the most exciting part of a new console generation for me. I am of the mindset that the controller is the most important part of gaming. I have followed Xbox’s controller plans very closely as the Xbox has my favorite controller layout in gaming history and it’s not even close. So much so that if i ever liked a PS controller i might not even be with Xbox outside of Gears of war. However Sony’s stick position and bad ergonomic controls has me rarely play on PS3-PS5.
Xbox’s controller plans have all been moved to next gen. In Europe they passed a rule controllers must have removeable and replaceable batteries. So look for Xbox and Sony controllers to change in the future. Tho it has been said MS will have a internal and swappable battery, auto connect to cloud, Haptics rumble, quieter buttons, tho i think people miss that the noise the Xbox controller makes isn’t by accident, it was meant to be like a mechanical keyboard and mouse click sounds on the shoulder buttons. Tho players never knew that and thought it to be loud and cheap so MS is changing it. Even tho people spend $400 dollars on keyboards that sound the same if not louder. Elite 3 has had a few MS surveys sent out to players asking different questions and feature requests like RGB lighting and the such. So it seems like Elite 3 is still years off. Making the purchase of the Doom Elite 2 pad safe Beaver. Whichever controller works best for the individual player is the best one of course and a reason they likely play the console. Let’s hope stick drift get’s fixed for next gen for all console players. 😀
@HonestHick Thanks for your info.
Obviously we are all different and have different tastes. My wife won't even pick up an Xbox controller anymore and absolutely despises them. I have sympathy, as I also dislike their layout, their cheap plastic feel and the horrible clicking. But I will and do play on Xbox, so I just get on with it. It's an absolute relief to play elsewhere though and not fell like I'm stuck with a unit from the past.
Plugging in a controller to charge is of no issue to me. Like many Xboxes, mine can barely maintain a wireless connection to a controller even if I sit directly in front of my series X and wireless hub (a quick Google search shows this is a common Xbox issue, rarely solved), so Xbox has to played wired. I always have ps pad fully charged ready to use, and I have 8 usb charging ports with cables literally right next to my seat and playing position. I get about 10 hours per charge, but I tend to play with haptics on medium or low strength - love em for the subtle feedback, but not if their shaking your fingers off! So ergonomics aside, I far prefer to use ps controllers, at least they play wirelessly with no connection issues at all times while feeling much better 😄
I'll play with anything if I have to, but with Xbox I feel like I'm stepping back in time.... but we are all different, and it's just a game controller.
...and yes, I would hope that the next designs will have hall effect switches, please!
Not only have I bought the Elite 2 controller, @HonestHick, but I also bought the standard one too. And HonestHick is right, @Titntin, the Xbox controller is far superior to that offered by Sony. I rarely play on my PS5, but when I do, it takes me a while to get used to the thumbstick positions, and if I am ever required to do a QTE, I invariable fail because Sony put the X in the wrong place... 🤪😂
Oh, yes, @HonestHick! I keep forgetting about the Lancer. It's in a box in the loft, so it's a case of out of sight, out of mind. I'm hoping to decorate my front room this year, and if I do, I'll be framing my canvas, getting my Lancer out, and mounting them both! 😂
@Fiendish-Beaver,
Lol there's no 'right' at all, simply preferences.
My entire life has been spent with committed gamers, who still form the bulk of those I know. But I don't know anyone, in the industry or out of it, that prefers Xboxes controller. I don't pretend that makes me 'right' because that would be a stupid attitude, but I at least know I don't have an outlier opinion.
Have either of the two people you know, actually held an Xbox controller, @Titntin...? If they do, I'm sure they will both change their opinion... 😂
@Fiendish-Beaver @Titntin i guess i am lucky in the sense i never had any wireless connection issues on any of the brands controllers. IGN which is a more PS fan focused website ran a poll before the launch of the this gen on offset sticks vs inline sticks and off set sticks won. On some sites the most often requested thing for Sony to do is make offset sticks. Dual sense has loads of pages out there of people sayings its to big and hurts their thumbs. For me for the little i do play on PS, i did noticed when playing FF16 on dual sense my left thumb was starting to hurt. There’s a reason for that, since the NiES and Sega master system, the dpad has been on the upper left hand side which at that time was main way to control your movement. It was natural for your thumb to be on the upper left hand side. PS1 controller is a super Nes controller design and not Sony’s, so Sony didn’t want to resign a new controller and the internals had no room to add analog sticks so they put them in the empty space of the chassis which was the bottom, which has your thumb placement for the first time alongside the N64 in the wrong spot. A lot of players got used to it. But there was a reason the 360 controller was way more preferred by players than the cheap featureless Six Axis controller. On PC where players have a choice, off set thumbsticks again are the main played. When your thumb is that low reaching the top of the controller is more of a stretch of your fingers. I hate it for shooters, i have not bought a shooter for PS in over 3 console generations but can use it for their single player games. I think Sony did mostly a neat job which the Dual sense minus the USLESS touchpad. That is so much wasted space on the controller for something that has maybe 0.01% use in a game minus a big button. I know it’s suppose to be a mouse like cursor but it’s never used that way and makes the controller wider than need be. I like the haptic rumble some and yes Tin i agree with you on the lower settings for that, feels better and did give me a little more battery life. Closer to 10 vs the near 40 on the switch Pro and Xbox. I will chill out on this topic now as i am a controller NERD. Again i think it’s my favorite part of a console or PC. It’s the device that connects you to the worlds created. I am really passionate about which one i have to use. But there is some science and logic behind having the directional pad to the top left. Imagine a Sega Genesis controller with the D-pad on the bottom? Like Tin said it’s all preference unless you ask a carpal tunnel doctor. Yes believe it or not i have read a doctors report online that said the PS controller was harder on your thumb and hand muscles. Cause again even if you don’t realize it you are stretching your thumb much further to go right on the pad than you are when it’s on the top. Do that little test when you next pick them up. You can see the results in your left thumb! Thanks to you both for taking on my controller geek talk. I am not here to offend or be a fanboy. I am truly just passionate about controllers and have been since i was a little kid. For the record i played 90% on my Super Nes cause i like the controller better than my Genesis. Now it’s 90% to 10% Xbox over PS cause of the controller.Enjoy your new DOOM controller Beaver. Appreciate you both again! 😀
@HonestHick lol, thanks for going through all that again - we've had several of these conversations over the last couple of years and I know how strongly you feel, I genuinely commend the fervour with which you defend your viewpoint!
However, I will never be converted as I use them both often and get confirmation of my choices every time I make the switch, sometimes several times a day. My wife demonstrates the issues with offset stick design well as she has small hands. The natural place to put the bottom of the controller grip is under the base of your thumb, but for smaller hands, that's too far to reach on an offset stick. As a result she has to have her hand rotated and that can lead to pulling nw when you meant to pull w issues. She also gets a ganglion cyst on the middle thumb joint pretty bad when she does play Xbox, but much less on PS. Might be another reason why Xbox doesn't sell as much as you'd expect in Japan, where hand sizes are small? That's just idle speculation of course! 😄
My hands are larger so it's not a problem for me using either, but it feels more natural to me on ps and I find that the extra contoller features like haptics, on board speaker and mic, gyro controls etc do make a difference to my enjoyment of a game.
Anyhow, I can certainly respect your choice whilst making another, and I certainly do understand your preferences, your certainly not alone!
It's incontestable that Xbox offer a lot more design and special edition options, which is fantastic. I wish Sony and Nintendo would follow suit and offer more too.
Anyhow nice to chew over these preferences again with you. It's a holiday weekend here in the UK, so I'll wish you a happy weekend!
@Titntin Happy Easter Buddy, it’s a holiday weekend here in the states as well. Wishing you and the family a great weekend! Thanks for the chat!
How about a poll on who would win in a fight? Master Chief or Doom guy? I'd say Doom guy wins majority of those battles
Got my Doom Elite V2 Controller today... It looks really nice!!!
