So... there's a couple of things to unpack here...
1) There are people here talking about Xbox going woke. The article (and the tweet referenced in the article) mention nothing about being woke (only about inclusivity, which is not the same thing).
2) "Woke" can be defined as "alert to injustice in society, especially racism" (Oxford Languages) or "aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues, especially issues of racial and social justice" (Merriam Webster). If that means Xbox is woke, then I'm all for it.
There is nothing in this article (or the referenced tweet) to get up in arms about or to stoke culture wars... So, let's not do that here eh! ❤️
Edit:
Btw, I see you created your account about 10 minutes after my comment, then left your own comment straight after.
Now, it's not a huge leap of the imagination to guess that you already have another Pure Xbox account and created a separate profile purely for the purposes of stoking an argument on this thread.
C'mon man... why be that person?
We're here for fun and shared experiences... let's not sour that.
Yeah... I'm not into doing deep dives on tuning, monitoring tire temps etc... I just like to jump into a race.
FH5 unfortunately feels a little lifeless, GRID Legends has too many problems (which is a shame... I feel there is a core of a potentially good game in there)...
What I really need in my life is Project Gotham.
I've said it before... and I'll keep saying it... we need a city street based racer whose handling sits halfway between FMotorsport and FHorizon.
Essentially a new Project Gotham, but slap a Forza Metro tag on it.
Cool, as long as you've got something to scratch your gaming itch 👍
I'm strictly console, as I prefer gaming from the couch (plus a decent PC rig is a cost I can't justify at the moment). Did try PS4 last gen, but have come back home to Xbox with the series X.
As long as there's competition, there'll be something for everyone and it's good to have choice... I might have to get Nintendo next to please the Mrs 🙂
That's a shame it's not working out for you. Just out of interest, will you be moving to PS5 or to PC gaming? What platform offers you the kind of games you want (and in the best way)? It's a shame you didn't sell the Series X a couple of months back before supply became plentiful... you would have got a good price for it very quickly.
Fair enough.
However, I think for most people gpu is a good value proposition.
It's lead me to playing a wider variety of games than I might otherwise have tried it I was having to gamble my money on them individually (a great example being Lake, which I probably wouldn't have bought, but enjoyed a lot on gpu... and has lead me to trying Life Is Strange).
I've never been good enough at gaming to really consider myself a master of any particular game 😆 as long as I'm having fun, it's all good 👍
But if gpu doesn't make sense for you, then I understand how today would have been disappointing... I think all the value was in the content coming to gamepass... and that's how it'll be for the foreseeable future, as that's Phil's strategy.
I'm genuinely surprised by the negativity here. Yeah, some of the games being pushed to 2023 is disappointing, but... if you have gamepass, there's a good variety of games incoming... a bit of something for everyone. If you have Xbox, but not gamepass.... then maybe a little short of expectations. But I'm guessing most of you xboxers have gpu... you'd be mad not to, right?
High On Life looked like a standout to me... Surprised more people aren't mentioning it.
I will be VERY disappointed if they can't drop Motorsport this year. 2022 is already thinner than a sheet of tracing paper, but without Motorsport what have we got? FH5 dlc? Loving my Series X and having a great time, but will definitely need a fresh lineup of games very soon.
Might try it on gamepass, but never paying for a CoD again... the recent games have been horrible to play in multiplayer (getting killed within about 2 seconds of spawning)... just haven't felt fun at all.
Loved Blops 1 and 2 and MW 1 and 2... But, for me, it's been mostly downhill since.
A shame, as I spent many happy hours on CoD in the 360 era.
Keep the marketing window tight and keep the consumer interest high.
Don't announce until you are 99% firm on your dates.
Games are announced so far in advance, people get fed up of waiting (and delays) and are disillusioned with the game before it even launches... Poor marketing and PR.
So IF the isn't a mid-gen refresh, maybe that will mean we get the future gen console a little earlier.
However, I do think there will be a mid gen model of some sort... I could see the X splitting... The standard model getting slightly smaller and losing the disc drive, then an X-Pro with disc drive and 2tb storage. Maybe also a fresh design for the S (maybe with a slight storage bump). I don't see anything coming out that is as big a leap as the One X was over the One.
From the reviews on the Xbox store, it looks like everyone is experiencing continuous crashing and the game is basically broken. Always wonder how a game can get released like that! Anyway, hope it gets fixed soon and then I'll give it a try... always up for trying a freebie.
@Would_you_kindly Money... Activision exist to make money. MS need something and have the pockets to pay for it. Works for both parties (IF they can agree a number).
Whilst I've become disenchanted with CoD, I think it's going to be the only game that can fill a Starfield sized hole in Q4.
Paying for it to be gamepass day 1 kinda makes sense, given they're owning Activision next year anyway (barring any snags).
Plus, given CoD sales have been dropping, having it on GP makes sense for Activision... get the game in people's hands, then make the profit on DLC.
Gotta get the agreement sorted before the showcase though... need to have something big to announce for this year (aside from, presumably, F.Motorsport).
So, this year, I have been playing Halo Infinite, F1, Trek To Yomi, Art Of Rally, dirt 5, forza horizon, FIFA, lake, gears 5, limbo, Tetris, Titanfall 2
The Mrs has been playing Lake, Life Is Strange and Bejeweled.
And I have a backlog of other stuff I'm meaning to play.
Good value for me.
It's not all about day 1 releases, or AAA, for me... It's about discovering games I might not have otherwise looked at (or spent money on) and finding unexpected delights.
Lake is a prime example... A game I would never have bought, but tried it on gamepass and enjoyed... and so did the Mrs.
Yeah, more content would be nice... and I'm not too enthused about the season 2 additions (apart from King Of The Hill, which I'm enjoying a lot).
But... The core multiplayer game is still a lot of fun (for me).
I haven't always got on well with Halo MP, but I've dug Infinite enough that I've already played more MP hours on it than the other Halos put together.
And, no, I'm not a 343 or MS shill.
It's a shame that so many people seem unhappy with the game.
There are definitely SOME valid concerns...and it's definitely ok to have a friendly open discussion about what works and what doesn't.
But... it does feel like gamers expectations are occasionally unreasonably high (and the same can occasionally be said for gamers sense of entitlement).
This isn't just with regards to Halo, but generally speaking.
Trashing devs and making unfounded accusations towards content creators seems to have become normalised... and that's a pretty sorry state of human behaviour.
Aim higher people... we can be better than that 👍
The showcase... maybe we'll get a pre-announcement of a teaser for an announcement for a cinematic trailer of a game to be released in 2025 (which will then get delayed)... and maybe some Forza Motorsport 😆
I hear what you're saying... but it doesn't really matter if the hype has died down... as long as you enjoy playing it (and there's enough others online - which they're should be), it's all good 👍
I really admire Gears, but I just can't play multiplayer because I stuck at using the shotgun... I'll take 3 shots at someone and they won't go down, then they'll take me down with a single shot. I've googled tutorials and I still can't seem to get competitive with it... and the multiplayer is SO centred around shotgun skills that trying to make an impact with a lancer or a hammerpoint is much less fun (and had much less impact). Anyone for any ideas how I can up my game with the shotgun?
This is actually the one game I miss from my PS4 days... it's light, it's a lot of fun and it's a great game for a quick session. Also, it's one of the few games the Mrs enjoyed playing (she's not much of a gamer... the only games I've managed to get her to spend significant time on were Fall Guys and Lake).
To have an almost empty year (apart from Motorsport... maybe) is really not good.
Big Phil needs to go to Satya with the begging bowl and ask for some money to get some emergency exclusives (or at least timed exclusives) from third parties for this year... Otherwise, what are they going to showcase?
A bunch of games that may (or may not) drop in another year?
A Forza Horizon DLC?
A blank PowerPoint?
Love Xbox and have been happy with my XSX since launch.
This isn't a disaster, as like many, I have a big gamepass backlog, which can keep me busy... but it's a VERY disappointing 2022.
Some speculate that MS may have some unannounced surprises... I hope that's true, but I'm seriously doubting it.
Ooof, that's not good! A real kick in the vegetables.
Glad they are taking time to release games in a good state and not rush out buggy crap, but... damn, that's not good for holiday season in terms of games sales or console sales. Not good AT ALL.
Guessing that MS are speeding up the spit and polish on Motorsport and they will hang their hat one that (plus maybe some timed exclusive content for CoD to sugar the pill). Maybe MS will desperately try to pick up some other timed exclusive content for another multiplatform as well? Thin pickings though... Very disappointing not to have something else major for Christmas.
To be honest, after falling completely in love with FH4 and playing for hours, days, weeks and months... FH5 feels a bit flat... a bit "meh". I got bored with it VERY quickly. Hoping the expansions (when they eventually arrive) spice things up a bit.
I'm enjoying Halo Infinite... I think I might be one of the few people who isn't regularly moaning about it!
However, the hero shooter version sounds interesting...
How would people feel about a parallel Halo series that had a hero/Overwatch based setup (and similar cartoony aesthetic)?
Think hybrid of Overwatch and Splitgate.
Something that was developed separately (by a different MS in house dev team) and had its own narrative, but was set on the Halo universe despite having it's own look and feel.
Maybe a lighter tone to it than the slightly more serious main franchise.
I stress again... this would be separate from, and in addition to, the main Halo games... not a replacement for them.
Personally I'm ok with GWG... yeah, a lot of its junk, but there's the odd golden nugget to be found... and that's fine with me (I've already got a backlog of games to play with gamepass). But... I do understand why a lot of people are unhappy with the quality of content and would prefer it is either reformed or scrapped. Is prefer it was reformed, as it's always great to get a freebie 👍
@Microbius
Not a bad idea...
Although they might need to differentiate on value of games....
e.g. gamepass indie title that's not getting much love could be yours for 1 coin., but a AAA title might cost you between 5 and 10 coins (depending on age, popularity etc)... and of course there'd be a range of games that would sit somewhere in-between (costing 2, 3 or 4 coins).
Really enjoying F1 2021 on gamepass at the moment, so look forward to trying the 2022 version when it comes to gamepass as well (next January probably).
@Cherip-the-Ripper There would be some disappointment amongst old machine owners, but it wouldn't be like MS are breaking any promises (and the next gen machines should be readily available for those that want them... plus cloud play option for this on older machines)... I don't think the reaction should be too negative. Having said that, I know gamers love to moan 😆
This November will mark 2 years since XSX release. I expect Motorsport to release November or December and to be newest gen only (though should be available to cloud stream to order machines).
I love arena shooters and I'm happy with Halo arena and BTB... This is my go-to shooter for when I want to disengage my brain and chill out. However, BR games provide moments of excitement and tension that arena just can't match. The tension of teaching the final 3 and being pinned in a small area is just perfect and can have you screaming at your TV 😆 Great to play a mix of both, depending on mood.
The BR space is gonna be busy, but great...
Apex Legends is terrific.
Fortnite is SO much more accessible and fun with the new Zero Build mode.
There's CoD Warzone for people that like that kinda thing (not for me).
Now, hopefully, Halo will keep being Halo while adding the fun of BR.
Gonna be great flipping between games, keeping things fresh.
It's like poking a corpse to see if it moves. It's dead, move on.
I think Konami would be better off giving it a quick burial and getting on developing a new game from the ground up.
Hope they (or someone else) do eventually being back a true competitor to FIFA (or whatever EA are going to call their game now)... there's not really a bunch of competition in the football game space.
It'll be before the next gen.
He'll want to give his successor (I'm guessing Sarah Bond) a good run up to the launch.
I'm guessing Phil is here for 2 to 3 years more tops.
And we thank him for his most excellent service 👍
I see you're new to this site... But, that's not really the way we communicate around here.
We're mostly a friendly bunch and not into trolling either.
Keep it light, fun and friendly and you'll fit in just fine.
I hear what you are saying... and at least Microsoft realise that is an issue and they are taking steps to remedy it through acquiring studios to get quality content out on a regular basis.
The marketing though... seems like they're hardly trying, which is weird.
I'm getting very off topic (apologies all), but the thing with Sony's home entertainment stuff is that the quality is WILDLY inconsistent...
My BEST hifi was a Sony. My WORST hifi was a Sony. They were both around the same price point
Also, their inclination towards proprietary technology is SO frustrating...
Had an MP3 player that converted everything to a weird Sony format that could not be converted back to mp3... lost all my digital music when the player died. Also had a hifi that would only play mp3s from a Sony branded usb.
... although, conversely, I think Xbox got it right with the proprietary external storage for the Series (versus the minefield of choosing the wrong SSD for the unwary PS user).
Hear lots of great stuff about Sony's HTA9 home theatre system though... very tempting!
Definitely not trying to fan the flames of Xbox Vs PS 🙂
I just find the lack of Xbox marketing mystifying given they are playing catch-up to Sony in terms of sales.
Given the positive feedback the console and gamepass are getting (plus Xbox being better stocked than the PS5), it just feels like they're missing an opportunity.
Anyhow, I was lucky enough to get an X at launch and am loving it (and gamepass).
I had a PS4 last gen, so I'm kinda agnostic... will go wherever the value and entertainment is 👍
Never been a hater of any games machine... not my thing 🙂
Though Sony have burned me a couple of times with audio equipment... will never forget that! 😆

No Goldeneye, Gears collection etc
Forza Motorsport not coming until 2023

Ugh... Announcements of games years before they are ready leads to so much disappointment and frustration.
Ideally,. I'd like the cadence to be more like...
9 months out: Announcement/teaser
6 months out: Cinematic trailer
3 months out: Gameplay trailer (and maybe beta/demo).
Keep the marketing window tight and keep the consumer interest high.
Don't announce until you are 99% firm on your dates.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Expectations For The 2022 Xbox Games Showcase?
Forza Horizon 5 DLC - shadow drop
Forza Motorsport - trailer and winter 2022 release date
Starfield - cinematic trailer
Redfall - cinematic trailer
Gears - collection (MCC equivalent).
Assorted gamepass additions (mostly Bethesda IPs and indies).
Plus hopefully some sort of deal with a third party for a winter 2022 exclusive.
Longshot... Perfect Dark trailer.

PCFs Bulletstorm deserved more attention than it got, but that's long dead now.

I'd definitely play it!
Re: Talking Point: What May 2022 Xbox Games With Gold Do You Want?
@Microbius
Re: Talking Point: What May 2022 Xbox Games With Gold Do You Want?
@Microbius
Re: F1 2022 Promises A 'Redefined Race Day Experience' On Xbox This July
Really enjoying F1 2021 on gamepass at the moment, so look forward to trying the 2022 version when it comes to gamepass as well (next January probably).
Re: Don't Worry, Bethesda's Redfall Hasn't (Yet) Been Delayed To Winter 2022
@Cherip-the-Ripper
There would be some disappointment amongst old machine owners, but it wouldn't be like MS are breaking any promises (and the next gen machines should be readily available for those that want them... plus cloud play option for this on older machines)... I don't think the reaction should be too negative.
Having said that, I know gamers love to moan 😆
Re: Don't Worry, Bethesda's Redfall Hasn't (Yet) Been Delayed To Winter 2022
@Cherip-the-Ripper
This November will mark 2 years since XSX release.
I expect Motorsport to release November or December and to be newest gen only (though should be available to cloud stream to order machines).
Re: Halo Infinite Leak Shares More Details On Rumoured Battle Royale Mode
@ParsnipHero
I'll second this 👍
I love arena shooters and I'm happy with Halo arena and BTB... This is my go-to shooter for when I want to disengage my brain and chill out.
However, BR games provide moments of excitement and tension that arena just can't match.
The tension of teaching the final 3 and being pinned in a small area is just perfect and can have you screaming at your TV 😆
Great to play a mix of both, depending on mood.
Re: Halo Infinite Leak Shares More Details On Rumoured Battle Royale Mode
The BR space is gonna be busy, but great...
Apex Legends is terrific.
Fortnite is SO much more accessible and fun with the new Zero Build mode.
There's CoD Warzone for people that like that kinda thing (not for me).
Now, hopefully, Halo will keep being Halo while adding the fun of BR.
Gonna be great flipping between games, keeping things fresh.
Re: Halo Infinite Is Apparently Getting A Gigantic Battle Royale Mode
Before: "We're not getting enough content".
Now: "We don't want THAT content".
All opinions are fine of course, but there does seem to be a lot of moaning around Halo, which I find strange.
I find the game works perfectly well and is very enjoyable to play.
Content delays were inevitable due to previously reworking the game before launch, plus dealing with Covid situation.
But, there's new maps coming for arena and BTB, plus new modes AND maybe a major BR mode on the horizon... All sounds fine to me 👍
Re: Konami's eFootball 2022 Relaunches On Xbox With Massive Update
It's like poking a corpse to see if it moves.
It's dead, move on.
I think Konami would be better off giving it a quick burial and getting on developing a new game from the ground up.
Hope they (or someone else) do eventually being back a true competitor to FIFA (or whatever EA are going to call their game now)... there's not really a bunch of competition in the football game space.
Re: Poll: When Do You Think Phil Spencer Will Retire From Xbox?
It'll be before the next gen.
He'll want to give his successor (I'm guessing Sarah Bond) a good run up to the launch.
I'm guessing Phil is here for 2 to 3 years more tops.
And we thank him for his most excellent service 👍

@Syfix009
Hey Syfix
I see you're new to this site... But, that's not really the way we communicate around here.
We're mostly a friendly bunch and not into trolling either.
Keep it light, fun and friendly and you'll fit in just fine.
Re: Xbox Series X|S UK Sales Have Surpassed The Nintendo GameCube
@BartoxTharglod
I hear what you are saying... and at least Microsoft realise that is an issue and they are taking steps to remedy it through acquiring studios to get quality content out on a regular basis.
The marketing though... seems like they're hardly trying, which is weird.
Re: Xbox Series X|S UK Sales Have Surpassed The Nintendo GameCube
@Dezzy70
Re: Xbox Series X|S UK Sales Have Surpassed The Nintendo GameCube
@UltimateOtaku91
